Mercy Otis Warren was truly a Revolutionary woman. She was born into a family that prized liberty above all else. Mercy hungered for knowledge, and did not stop with reading and writing as other girls her age did. She was tutored in history, politics, literature, and philosophy. She married James Warren at the age of 26, and began her literacy crusade to support the ideas of the Revolution. She believed that the republic rested on the virtue of its citizens. She educated people about the necessity for political change. She was very patriotic and was friends with John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and even George Washington.
