Pollinators help the world in many ways. If we did not have
pollinators, food could not grow. Click through the slides to
read about some important pollinators.
Hummingbirds
Pollen can travel in many ways. You learned that bees
are pollinators because they move pollen from flower to
flower. Another way pollen can travel is by birds like
hummingbirds. Hummingbirds drink nectar from the flowers
and move the pollen as they move from flower to flower.
Bats & Insects
Bats and insects are also pollinators. Bats eat insects
in the flowers and drink the nectar. As they move from
flower to flower, they move the pollen, too.
Many insects also visit flowers to drink the nectar. As
they do, they pick up pollen much like a bee and carry
the pollen to other flowers.
Nature
Wind and water can also move pollen. You may see pollen
in the air around you in the spring—especially if you
live around a lot of trees and flowers.

Question
What are pollinators?
Pollinators are things that move pollen from one plant to another. Pollinators can be living like a bee, hummingbird, or bat. Pollinators can also be non-living like the wind.
