Nathan baked his stepmom a fresh pear pie! His stepmom loves pies, and she ate one third of the pie!

A third is one of three equal parts. When you divide a shape into thirds, you are dividing it into three equal parts. 3 thirds make 1 whole.
This rectangle is divided into thirds because it has 3 equal parts!

Thirds can also be found in an equal group of things.
Nathan has 3 whole candy bars. He ate 1. That means he ate a third of his candy bars.
