What are the different types of trees?

There are two main types of trees. Click each picture below to learn more about each type.

Deciduous trees lose all leaves in the winter and grow new ones in spring. This is what a deciduous tree looks like in the summer.

Coniferous needle clusters or "leaves" stay on the tree all year-round. They are also called evergreen.

Take a walk where you live, and look for these two types of trees. Do these trees grow in your neighborhood? Feel the bark on the trees. Crush a leaf, and smell the scent on your fingers. Feel the small branches. Does one type break easier than the other? Lie on the ground and look up. What do you see?
