Let’s Watch about Earning Money

One day Aminah sees the perfect birthday present for her friend Zuri. It’s a special skateboard that could help Zuri do more tricks. The skateboard costs 50 dollars.

Aminah’s grandma tells her it is too expensive. If Aminah wants to buy the special skateboard, she will have to buy it with her own money.

Aminah asks her grandma how she can earn money to buy the skateboard. Aminah’s grandma says she can earn money by working around the house. Each time Aminah makes her bed, she earns 50 cents. Every time she washes the dishes, she earns 1 dollar. Feeding the dog earns Aminah another 50 cents. Grandma also tells her she can earn 2 dollars for each book she reads!

Aminah is excited to get started on her work! She makes sure her bed is made each morning. She washes the dishes and feeds the dog each evening. Each week she puts her money in her piggy bank.

Sometimes Aminah asks to help her grandma with the cooking and even vacuums the floor. Her grandma adds to her working wages for these extra chores.

After two weeks, Aminah wants to count her money. She dumps all the dollar bills and coins out of the piggy bank onto the floor. But Aminah has a problem! She does not know how to count money! She can’t go to the store and buy the skateboard even if she has earned enough money for it.

Aminah asks her grandma to teach her how to count money. She needs this knowledge so that she can buy the skateboard.

It takes a lot of practice for Aminah to learn how to count money. She has to learn all about different coins, their value, and how the coins add up to a dollar. She practices counting money with her grandma and with her teacher, Mr. Morrow.

Eventually, Aminah has enough money to buy the skateboard! She is very excited to go to the store with grandma and buy Zuri’s birthday gift. They wrap the present and wait for the birthday party.

On the day of Zuri’s birthday party, Aminah waits patiently for her friend to open the gift.

Zuri loves new skateboard. Aminah is proud of herself for working so hard. She learned how to do a lot of things to make this special gift happen!
