Oak trees are a type of deciduous tree. They grow very slowly. Some oak trees live to be 200 to 400 years old! After 20 years, oak trees begin to produce acorns. Acorns are the seeds of the oak tree. Many animals make their homes in the branches and the trunks of oak trees.

Maple trees are another type of deciduous tree. They are known for their beautiful colors in the autumn and for making maple syrup. In early spring, people drill small holes into the maple trees to harvest the sap. The sap is collected in buckets and then boiled. Special machines and equipment are used to make the sap into delicious, sticky maple syrup.

The change of the seasons is very important to deciduous trees. As the weather gets colder and the days become shorter, the leaves of deciduous trees change color. In the winter, all the leaves fall off the trees. The trees are at rest during the cold season. In the spring when the trees are ready to grow again, they begin to bud. This is the start of new leaves or blooms.
