Freda Fossil and the Map

The day Freda Fossil got lost was one of the scariest days of her life. She ran off from the supermarket to jump in a puddle, and when she looked up, her mom was gone!

Freda ran all over the place, turning corners and crossing paths until she had no idea where she was. When her mom finally found her, she decided she never wanted to get lost again. She was going to make a map.

First, Freda started paying attention to her neighborhood. When she rode the bus, she noticed that the police station was on the corner of Geode and Sand St, right next to the local flower shop. Her school was across the street from the park where she got lost.

Some places were easy to remember, like where the bus stop was. Right in front of her house! The harbor was easy too, that’s where Uncle Boris keeps his boat!

But Freda started to notice new places too. She saw Officer Trilobite exercising every morning at the playground in the park, right next to the supermarket. Freda would never have gotten lost if she had remembered where the playground was.

Freda drew a map of her neighborhood. She wrote down what she remembered, and kept filling in more every day. Pretty soon, she was giving everyone directions!
