It’s FUN being 5! I get to do a lot more than when I was 4, like going to school, as the big kids do. And as we grow bigger, we learn to do better…our share of the work, around home, and at school.

Mom has a word that’s 14 letters long that she uses a lot… RESPONSIBILITY. Dad calls it “doing your part.” When it’s time to do stuff, that just helps out, like homework on time – and doing it right. Or cleaning my room--now that’s a sight!

I like to pitch in when Mom’s in the kitchen--even doing the dishes without being told. Once, I kicked a ball in the wrong place, and it ended up breaking a flower vase. Sorry, Mom! I did it. Or I spilled a drink on the carpet and wiped it up quick in less than a minute.

And now that I’m in school, responsibility is the rule. That even means picking up my little sister’s toys and returning some borrowed books. Every day when I come home, I check for chores so I can get a head start on doing my part.

Responsibility means I take care of me, like wearing my helmet and watching for cars when near the street, or eating right foods is part of the deal--not just swallowing whatever I feel.

The last thing at night is to brush my teeth and wash my hands and face. Then I fall asleep knowing everything’s in place.
