Cordon and Bella love candy! They just received some candy from their school principal for helping clean up the school garden.

While playing at the park, Cordon and Bella get a little hungry. They want to eat some of the candy their principal gave them. But there are only 3 pieces of candy, and they are 3 different kinds of candy! Cordon and Bella want an equal part of each candy. Can you help them divide the candies into equal parts?

To divide something into equal parts means to separate a group of objects equally or to separate a whole object into parts that are the same size. When you divide a whole object or a group of objects into 2 equal parts, those are called halves. Just one of the two parts is called a half. Two halves make a whole! Let’s divide the piece of chocolate for Cordon and Bella first! How can we split this chocolate in half, or two equal parts? Yes! We can split it down the middle! Wow! Look at that, 2 halves! We split the chocolate bar into 2 equal parts for Cordon and Bella to share! Good job!

Now let’s split the pink candy egg so that Cordon and Bella will have equal parts to share! Hmmm. The top is smaller than the bottom, so let’s split it equally down the middle so each person gets an equal part of the candy egg. Nice job! Cordon and Bella are very happy snacking on the delicious candy they earned for their hard work!

There is one piece of candy left! It looks delicious! How can Cordon and Bella share this piece of candy? Right! They can also cut this piece in the middle to get 2 equal parts to share! Nice job. We made 2 halves!

Thank you for helping Cordon and Bella share their candy equally by making halves! Goodbye!
