Where else can you find symmetry in nature?
Another place that we see mirror symmetry is in people and animals. Look carefully at this picture. There is a straight line dividing the girl’s face down the middle. Her face looks the same on both sides! Look around at other people. Most people look almost the same on either side.
Like human faces, animal faces also have mirror symmetry. Usually, animals have ears that look similar and eyes that are the same shape. Some animals even have similar markings on each side of their face or body. Look at the picture of this cat. Its ears, eyes, and nose are all mirror images of each other. Its markings are also almost the same on each side!
In this lesson, you will make an animal mask or ears that you can wear. Which animal will you be?
