Cut out your pattern.

Print out an animal pattern from the pdfs provided or make your own pattern. Fold one piece of cardstock in half (short end to short end) and place your pattern on the folded edge.

Trace the pattern.

Use a pencil to carefully trace around your pattern. Make sure the edge of your pattern is right against the folded edge of the cardstock.

Cut out your mask and unfold it.

Carefully cut out your pattern. Make sure NOT to cut the folded edge! When you are finished, unfold your cut out. You should see the symmetrical face of your animal!

Decorate your mask.

Use markers to draw on your animal’s face. Try to keep the sides of the face symmetrical! That means, if you draw something on one side then you should also draw it on the other.
Note to learning coach: Your artist’s drawings will not be perfectly symmetrical. Just make sure they are trying their best to draw the same things on each side.

Measure strips for the headband.

Take a second piece of cardstock and measure out 2-inch strips. The easiest way to do this is to use a ruler to measure out 2 inches along each side and then connect the dots. Cut out at least two strips. Some children may need more.

Attach the headband to the mask.

Attach two strips (end to end) in the back middle of your animal face. Make sure the strips are securely attached to your mask.

Wrap and tape the headband.

Hold your animal face on your forehead while your learning coach tapes the strips together at the back of your head. Now your mask has a headband!

Wear your animal mask!

All done! Good job!

You have finished your animal mask! Was it easy to draw symmetrically? Don’t forget to send a picture of your mask to your teacher!
