Capital punishment has been the source of great discussion and controversy. The Supreme Court agreed in 1976 that it is constitutional if used as a punishment for serious cases involving murder, but opponents argue that the death penalty goes against the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Many different rehabilitation programs are available for prisoners. They can earn a high school diploma or take college level courses while in prison. There are on-the-job training programs as well. These programs seem to do more towards rehabilitating prisoners than any other programs.
