Study the electromagnetic spectrum (link is below). Locate the part of the spectrum that is occupied by microwaves.
Microwaves are used to relay long-distance telephone signals, television programs, and computer information across the earth or to a satellite in space.

Microwaves
What are microwaves?
Microwaves are a type of wave that are sandwiched between radio waves and infrared radiation on the electromagnetic spectrum. The prefix "micro-" in "microwave" is not meant to suggest a wavelength. It indicates that microwaves are "small" compared to waves used in typical radio broadcasting because they have shorter wavelengths.
