What factors affect a person’s choice of birth control?

Photo of various forms of birth control / contraceptives

In this lesson, you have learned about many different types of contraceptives and have seen some of the pros and cons for each type. People who use each of these methods must do so for a reason; that is, they must find one method preferable to another in some way. So what makes someone choose one method of birth control over another? What do you think?

What factor or factors make one birth control method preferable to another? Cost? Availability? Effectiveness? Ease of use? Lack of side effects? Do these factors change throughout a person’s life? What would cause a person or couple to change the type of birth control they use?

Recall what you have learned about the different contraceptive methods. Then go to the next discussion assignment in this course and post your answer to the questions above. Be sure to provide reasons and examples to support your answer.
