African Kush Nation: Ahnat
I remain Ahnat, although I am married now and will soon sail to Egypt with my new husband. There I hope to see my brother who went before me. It is said he is happy there. He learns great things and sees much. I, too, wish to know Egypt and hear the stories of their gods.
The great river Nile will carry my husband and me to our new home. He is a kind man and tells me I shall be happy there. Our ship carries goods from the Kush people as well.
Of course we bring gold, copper, and ivory that is so well loved by the Egyptian people. But we bring other goods as well. We carry linen cloth that has been spun from the flax of the soil rich valleys in Kush. We carry papyrus, too, for the paper that my brother writes upon. The sweet smelling wool comes aboard along with dried fish from the Nile and date palm branches that adorn the roofs of so many of our people.
My mother has packed a fine meal for us. We shall eat the fruit of the Kush people, dates, figs, olives, and nuts, as we travel along the Nile. I shall miss this land, for it is home to me. But I know that the Sun God Ra will watch over me in Egypt, too, for he travels over all the world on his journey in the sky each day. My mother and I will look up at the sky each day and Ra will smile down on both of us. This I know is true.
Goodbye for now Napata. I will bring your love and goods to the people of Egypt.
