Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C.,
Neither a city nor a state.
Established as our nation's capital.
1790 was the date.

George Washington
Chose the location.
Because he was the first
To lead our nation.

George Washington

Along the Potomac River
Maryland to the North
Virginia to the South
People going back and forth.

The name comes from three things.
Washington was president number one.
District, not city or state. That's two.
Columbia from Columbus, and we're done.

Pierre Charles L'Enfant
Was the city's designer.
Benjamin Banneker laid it out.
Their work could not be any finer.

The White House is there.
The Capitol building, too.
A wealth of our country's history.
So much to see and do.

The Washington Monument
Stands 555 feet tall.
Honors George Washington
And what he did for us all.

Capital Hill

The Lincoln Memorial
Has a statue inside.
People see Abraham Lincoln
And are filled with pride.

There's Capitol Hill.
In the middle the Capitol stands.
House of Representatives on one side.
Senate on the other, often shaking hands.

Washington D.C.

Washington, D.C.
A purpose and history so great.
To guide our vast nation.
The Constitution did create.
