Making a Squish Monster

Here are the step-by-step instructions.

Click through the slideshow and follow the directions to make your squish monster.

Cover Page

Fold your paper.

Fold your paper in half, short end to short end. Try to line up your edges as best you can so that your line of symmetry is in the middle of your paper.

Drizzle the paint.

Unfold your paper and drizzle tempera or acrylic paint on one side. Make sure you get a little paint near the fold or you will have a big hole in the middle of your monster.

Squish!

Fold your paper back over and gently press it together. This will squish the paint and create a mirror image!

Unfold the paper.

Carefully unfold your paper and lay it out flat. You should have an amazing paint squish on your paper! Leave it to dry for several hours or even overnight before moving on to the next step.

Add details to your monster.

Give your monster eyes and other features. You can use googly eyes, feathers, markers, and any other craft items that you have. Permanent markers tend to show up best on paint.

Now you have finished your monster! What is its name? Tell your learning coach a short story about your monster. Then, send a picture of it to your teacher.
