Now that you have learned about how eyes work and creating images, complete the following project.


lens illustration showing the image projected upside down For this project, you will need a cylindrical box, such as the kind corn meal or oatmeal comes in, a small piece of black paper, a small piece of wax paper, a needle, and a lit candle.

a. Cut a hole about 1” x 1” in the center of one end of the box. Paste the black paper over the hole, and punch a small hole in the center with the needle.

b. In the other end of the box cut an opening about two inches square. Paste the wax paper over this opening.

c. Bring the box and candle into a darkened room. Light the candle, and hold the box with the needle hole towards the candle. Move it back and forth from the candle until a clear image appears on the wax paper.

d. What does the real image look like? Draw a sketch of your demonstration, showing why.
