Goal:
You will need three colored pencils to color your map: red, blue, and light blue.
Use this map as a reference to color your activity page which is part of this week's Written Work.
First, color the states on your map blue that are dark blue on this map. Blue is the color of the Union Army's uniform. The blue states represent the Union, also called "the North," and those states opposed, or were against, slavery. Second, color the states on your map red that are red on this map. Red is the background of the Confederate flag. These Confederate states, or the South, wanted to keep slavery. Third, color the states on your map light blue that are light blue on this map. These are border states, and they are part of the Union, but they allowed slavery. Also included in the border states was West Virginia, which was anti-slavery. You can leave the gray states on this map blank on your map. These are territories and Oklahoma (called "Indian Territory" during this time).
