Why aren't there as many wars today as there were in the past? World War I and World War II were two of the largest wars in history, with World War II (1939-1945) being the largest and deadliest war of all time. Over 70 million people died from 30 different countries.

The United Nations (UN) was formed after World War II ended. This international organization was established to promote peace and cooperation among countries.
The UN began with 51 countries. Some of these countries included the United States, Canada, France, Great Britain, and the Republic of China. Now 193 countries are a part of the United Nations. In fact, there are only two countries today that are not members of the UN.

How do these countries work together?
Representatives from each member country meet to discuss goals and initiatives. The UN's goal is to keep peace among countries and help them get along, improve living conditions for people around the world, and make the world a better place.
