Cardinal Directions
In this lesson, you will learn how to follow directions on a map. First, let's learn all of the directional names. Look at the compass. N is always on top. N is for north. Going clockwise (around to the right, like the hands of a clock), E comes next. E is for east. At the bottom of the compass is S, for south. Last, on the left of the compass, is W, for west. Here's a fun way to remember this order:
Never Eat Soggy Waffles.
Let's practice reading the compass. Which animal is in the north spot? Is it the dog, the cat, the turtle, or the duck? Decide which one, and then check your answer.
duck Great job! Which animal is west?
dog Yes! Which animal is east?
turtle You are right again! Which animal is south?
cat Awesome! Click the arrow to practice following directions. |
