How do guitar strings make sounds with different pitches?

Goal:

Goal:

guitarGuitars and other string instruments have different-sized strings, and some of these strings are tighter than others. These differences cause the strings to create different pitches.

If you can, look at a string instrument. Think about which strings create lower pitches and which strings make higher pitches. Use what you've learned so far to answer the question below.

Question

The lowest string on a string instrument is the thickest. It's also the loosest. How will that affect the pitch and frequency of the sound?

A looser string will vibrate more slowly and with larger vibrations. As a result, it produces a lower pitch. A string that is tighter will have faster, smaller vibrations, causing a higher pitch.
