The Why
Why should you get involved in your community?
Goal:
Goal:
If there is a problem in your community, can you help solve it?
Have you ever seen garbage sitting on the side of the road? Have you ever seen people speeding, or driving too fast? Does your local playground or school need updates? All of these examples are problems that some communities may face. Without help from people in the community, some of these problems won't ever be solved.
Read about some more problems that can occur in a local community. Does your community have any of these issues?
Community Problems:
- Noisy neighbors
- Speeding cars on local streets
- Litter on the side of the road
- Parks in need of being cleaned up
- Need for a local garden
- Schools need updating
- Elderly need help
- People less fortunate need food and clothing
- Buildings or homes need to be painted
Brainstorm a list of ways you could solve some of the community problems above. Discuss your thoughts and ideas with someone. If these were actual community problems where you lived, do you think your solution could solve the problem? Would you take it to your local mayor or community representative and share your ideas to better your community?
How can getting involved in your community help you?
Helping others can make you feel good about yourself. It is also a good way to make friends and build relationships with other people that live in your community. When you support others in need, they will be there to support you when you are in need.
