How much of the foundation is built?

Foundation divided into thirds.

The ground is partitioned into three equal parts. To partition means to divide into parts. Equal parts of a whole are the same size and shape.

Two squares. One square divided into three equal parts. The other square divided into unequal parts.

Each part is a third! Thirds are three equal parts. They are smaller than halves because there are more of them!

Two squares. One divided into thirds. The other square divided into halves.

We can make thirds with lines that go from top to bottom or from side to side. Some shapes can make thirds with both kinds of lines. Other shapes, like a triangle, use lines that start at the middle and go out to the edges.
