Goal: Learn to count by 1-minute intervals.
Have you heard people say that elephants never forget? It’s true that elephants have great memories. Elmer’s memory helped him learn how to count by the hours. But now he needs to learn how to count by minutes. You can learn along with him!
Do you remember what an analog clock is? An analog clock has the numbers 1 to 12 on its face. It has hands, or arrows, that move around in a circle and point to numbers.
The short hand points to the hour on an analog clock. It is called the hour hand. The long hand points to the minutes. It is called the minute hand
This analog clock shows that it is exactly 3 o’clock!
The minutes on a clock are shown by marks that appear between the numbers. Each mark stands for 1 minute. As the long hand moves around the clock, it points to the minute marks, one at a time. On this clock, the long hand is pointing to the mark for 3 minutes.
What would the clock look like if the long hand pointed to 5 minutes, or 7 minutes, or 10? Let’s find out! Count the minute marks on each of the flash cards below. Then click the card to see if you counted correctly.
