Gotta Get the Groceries!

A woman shopping in a grocery store.

While grocery shopping, Ms. Jackson picked up a few items she needed for the week:

  • 227-gram jar of tomato sauce
  • 305-gram can of cream of chicken soup
  • 2.3-kilogram bag of sugar
  • 300 grams of sliced meat from the deli
  • 1.5-kilogram bag of flour

What is the total weight of the items in grams?

Work through the problem on your own, then click the answer button to compare your answer to the one given.

First convert the item weights to grams.
tomato sauce: 227 grams
can of cream of chicken soup: 305 grams
bag of sugar: 2.3 x 1000 = 2,300 grams
slices meat: 300 grams
bag of flour: 1.5 x 1000 = 1,500 grams

Now that all of your measurements are converted to grams, you can add them all together to find the total weight of the groceries Ms. Jackson bought.

227 + 305 + 2,300 + 300 + 1,500 = 4,632

So, Ms. Jackson purchased a total of 4,632 grams of items at the grocery store.
