Tessa’s dad just brought home a box of donuts. Yum! Before Tessa’s family eats them, she wants to sort them into groups using some of her five senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. Let’s help her!

Some of these donuts have different textures. They might feel bumpy if they have sprinkles or smooth if they don’t. Do you see any donuts that have sprinkles on them? That’s right! These donuts have sprinkles and these donuts do not. There! We’ve sorted them into 2 groups.

We could also sort these donuts by their shapes. Do you see any long donuts? Very good! What about round donuts? Nice work! Let’s sort these donuts by their shapes: long and round.

What’s another way we could help Tessa sort the donuts? Oh yes, by their sizes! Which donuts are small? That’s right. Which donuts are big? Excellent!

Tessa wants to sort the donuts in one more way. Think about what colors you see. There are some donuts with just one color and others with more than one color. Can you sort the donuts? Wow!

Tessa is so happy with the way she sorted her family’s donuts today. Now she knows which donuts are alike or the same, and which donuts are different. Thank you for your help!
