Action: Roll a ball by making it move across the ground.

Technique:

  • You can roll a ball with one hand or both hands.
  • One-handed roll:
    • Hold the ball in either hand.
    • Swing your arm down and back behind the body.
    • Step toward the target with the foot opposite of your rolling arm.
    • Keep your arm close to the body as you swing it forward toward the target.
    • Release and flip the ball to the target so it moves along the ground.
  • Two-handed roll:
    • Hold the ball with both hands.
    • Bend at your waist and swing your arms between your legs.
    • Swing your arms forward.
    • Release and flip the ball to the target so it moves along the ground.

Skill Activities:

  • See how far you can roll the ball.
  • Roll a ball and try to hit a target. Back up and see how far away you can be and still hit the target.
  • Roll the ball as fast as you can.
  • Sit on the floor, and roll the ball in a circle around your body.
  • See how many different ways and body parts you can use to roll the ball.
