How do you write the time?

How often during each day do you wonder: What time is it? The answer to this question is important. It tells us when to eat, when to go to school, or when to go to sleep.

Before answering the question "what time is it?", you need to know what time is! Time is simply the specific minute or hour shown by a clock. A minute is a unit of time that is equal to 60 seconds. An hour is a unit of time that is equal to 60 minutes. You now know that the two main parts of time are minutes and hours!

Since time is such an important part of life, you need to know how to write it. If it is three o'clock, how is this written in numbers? Look at the time below. What do you notice?

3:00

The number that shows the hour, 3, comes before the colon. You need to write "3" first, then write a colon. The numbers that show the minutes come after the colon. When the time is on the hour, you will write two zeros after the colon. This means "three o'clock" is written like this: 3:00. Let's do another time on the hour.
