As the construction on the ramp continues, the sidewalk needs to also be updated.

There will be a new brick path up to the ramp.

Daniel is helping to organize the building materials.

He lays out all the materials that are going to be used in the construction of the path.

He is going to use a line plot to keep track of how much of each material is being used.

Daniel needs to label his number line to show the different materials

There are bricks, stones, cement, and iron being used.

Daniel makes an X above the image each time he sees one of that material in the pile.

As he marks off each material on his line plot, he also crosses it out in the array. That way, he does not miss any or count the same item twice.

The first item Daniel marks on his line plot is a piece of iron.

Daniel continues to make his line plot.

Iron, Iron, Stone, Cement, Cement.

He will continue to do this until all the items have been recorded on the line plot.

Now we have all the materials accounted for in the line plot.

Let’s look a little closer at Daniel’s completed line plot.

Which material is there the most of?

That’s right! There are more bricks that any other type of material.

How many bricks are there?

There are 7 bricks!

Which material is the least used?

That’s right! The iron is the least used material!

There are only 4 iron pieces

Daniel now has all the materials organized! The workers can get back to finishing the brick path!
