How do you plot points on the coordinate plane?

Goal:

Goal:

Let's pretend that our coordinate plane is like a city. You are asked to plot the point (3,7). Another way of looking at this point is to think of directions. You are asked to drive 3 blocks east and 7 blocks north. Click through the slideshow below to see how you would plot this point on a coordinate plane.

Getting Started

We begin our drive from home, which is at the origin on our coordinate plane. We drive 3 blocks east, which means we move 3 units to the right of the origin on the coordinate plane.

Keep Going

Next, we need to drive 7 blocks north, which means that we move 7 units up on the coordinate plane.

You Made It!

Finally, we arrive at our destination, the point (3,7). Here we draw a small circle to mark the point's location on the plane.
