How much of the school is built?
The school is partitioned into four equal parts. Partition means to divide into parts. Equal parts of a whole are the same size and shape.
Each part is a fourth! Fourths are four equal parts. They are smaller than halves and thirds because there are more of them!
We can make fourths with lines that go from top to bottom or from side to side. Some shapes can make fourths with each type of line. Others need special lines to create fourths!
\(\mathsf{ \frac{1}{4} }\) means one fourth. \(\mathsf{ \frac{1}{4} }\) has a 1, a dividing line, and then a 4.
Let’s look at fourths!
We partition shapes and objects into four equal parts to make fourths!
