Madelyn is creating a garden in her backyard. She wants to build 3 flower beds.

“Hey Madelyn, could you use some help?”

“Okay!”

The first flower bed needs to have an area of 35 square units, with one of the sides being 7 unit squares long.

We will start with a line of 7 unit squares. Now all we need to do is build rows off this first row until we make a rectangle with 35 unit squares! Ready? 7, 14, 21, 28, 35. We did it!

Madelyn's next flower bed needs to have an area of 54 square units. One of the lengths of the flower bed should be 9 unit squares. Hmmm, how should we start building this? Oh, yes! Start with a line of 9 unit squares!

Let's skip-count by 9 until we reach an area of 54 square units! Ready? 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54. Great job!

Just one more flower bed to go! This last flower bed needs an area of 16 square units. Each side should have a length of 4 unit squares.

There we go! Now, just fill in the missing squares!

You did a wonderful job helping Madelyn build her new flower beds. Thank you for creating shapes using different areas and lengths!
