Michael loves to travel. He and his family are planning a trip soon, and they need to watch the weather to find out what to pack. In class, he is learning about the different seasons. Let’s help Michael by taking a walk through the different seasons.

There are four seasons in the United States: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Depending on where you live, each season might look a bit different. We’ll describe each season so that Michael knows what to look for in the weather report. Then, he will know what kind of clothes to pack in his suitcase for his trip!

Winter starts out the year. When January arrives, much of the United States is covered in snow, and it is very cold outside. Plants do not grow in winter, and people protect themselves by dressing in warm clothing. The Sun sets early at night.

Winter provides fun activities to do—like skating, sledding, and even skiing! Can you find each of these fun winter activities?

After winter, spring is a welcome season in March. In spring, temperatures get warmer. Plants begin to grow, and trees form buds. The snow melts away, and people wear lighter clothes. Sometimes, there are strong storms in spring that bring rain to many areas of the United States.

There are fun things to do in spring. Kids like to play outside and enjoy the fact that the Sun stays in the sky longer each day. Take a moment to look at all the different things you can do in spring!

Summer, a favorite season for many people, arrives in June. The temperatures get very warm, and plants grow and grow.

People enjoy doing many activities in the summer. Swimming, biking, boating, and camping are great to do during this season.

The last season of the year is fall. When fall arrives in September, the leaves on the trees change color and fall off. The temperature begins to get cold again, and people prepare by wearing warmer clothes. Sunsets come earlier in the evening.

Children often rake leaves in fall, and then jump in the leaf piles. Picking apples and carving pumpkins are also popular fall activities.

Michael is happy to know more about the different seasons in the United States—winter, spring, summer, and fall. He now knows how to pack his suitcase with the right clothes whenever his family goes on a trip. He can tell what the weather is going to be like because of the season.
