Glue Resist Painting

How do you use glue to create a design?

Follow the directions in the slideshow to create your painting!

Create your design.

Using a bottle of white or clear school glue, create a pattern on your paper. Make sure to lay on the glue thickly and try not to touch the paper with the bottle. Allow the glue to cross over itself, create little puddles, and separate in some places. When you have finished, set your work aside to dry for a couple of hours.

Add in the color!

When the glue has dried, add in your watercolor paints using the wet-on-wet method. Remember to wet your paper lightly and then add in wet watercolor paint. This will create beautiful color blends.
Tip for the learning coach: Encourage your artist to avoid the colors black, gray, and brown. These colors tend to muddy neighboring colors in wet-on-wet method. Color families, like cool colors (blue, green, violet) and warm colors (yellow, red, and orange) look nice with one another. But children should use whatever colors appeal to them.

Add details to your painting.

When your first layer of colors has mostly dried, you can layer other colors on top. Make sure your first layer is mostly dry; otherwise, adding this layer will create browns and grays!

What will you do with your beautiful painting? Will you hang it in your room? Make sure you send a picture of your work to your teacher!
