Gather your tools.

For this project, you need to find a tool to indent, or push down, the Styrofoam. The best tool is a ballpoint pen because it is pointed, but not sharp. Other options are a mechanical pencil with no lead or a twig. You need to work more carefully with a twig because it is fairly sharp and can poke through the Styrofoam.

Cut the plate and draw your design.

Cut the edge off your plate so that it sits flat on your drawing surface. Then, use your chosen tool to draw a picture or make a design. Anything you draw will print backwards, so avoid writing any words. They will print backwards and be difficult to read!

Load your roller and apply the paint.

Load your paint roller by rolling it in a glob of paint until it is evenly covered. You do not want big globs of paint on the roller because they will get into the crevices that you created with your drawing tool. Then, carefully apply paint to your print surface. Make sure the paint is thinly and evenly applied.

Print!

Carefully place your print paint-side down onto your paper. Gently press down on it with your hands. Make sure to press evenly all around so that all of your paint transfers. Then, slowly peel off the Styrofoam to see your finished print! You can make another print with a different color if you want!

Did you make a couple of prints? You could send these prints to people in the mail. But first make sure you send a picture to your teacher!
