What happens when crayons and watercolor paints meet?

Kids enjoy watercolor paints because of their bright colors. Parents enjoy them because they are usually inexpensive and easy to clean up. Today, you will use an art technique called wax resist to make a watercolor painting. That may sound hard to do, but it really is not.

Wax resist works because water does not mix with wax. In fact, wax actually resists, or pushes away, water. Crayons are made of wax. Knowing that, what do you think will happen when you draw with a white crayon and then paint over it with watercolor paint? Let’s find out!
