What do you need to know about the issues that concern you so that you can make an impact on public policy?

Objectives

Students will:

  1. Gather and analyze information related to a political issue that interests or concerns you.
  2. Analyze research data related to the issue you selected, including charts, tables, maps, and graphs.
  3. Analyze and evaluate arguments on either side of the issue, identifying the frame of reference for each argument, evaluating the evidence and sources used in each argument, and identifying bias or signs of propaganda.

Skills Needed

Students must be able to:

  1. Identify an issue of concern to you or your family.
  2. Explain the role of the government in addressing the issue, including any legislation, regulation, or policies.
  3. Identify what more you need to know about an issue to participate responsibly in political decisions about it.
