What text structure is used to describe a series of events?

Chronological order is often called time order. This type of text structure usually includes dates or other elements that reflect a specific time or the passing of time. Articles about events and about a person's life are usually presented using chronological order.

Notice how dates are used to show when events occurred in this chronologically ordered paragraph.

Firework According to one legend, John Smith set off the first fireworks display in 1608 in Jamestown, the very first settlement in what was to become the United States. On July 4, 1777, fireworks were used to celebrate the first anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and Americans have been enjoying fireworks displays every 4th of July since.

The times or dates an event occurred are usually presented in the order they happened so readers can easily follow the text. Chronological order and sequential order are similar in their form, but chronological order usually includes dates or times when events occurred.

Which topics have details that belong in chronological order, and which would work better using sequential order? Connect each phrase to the item that contains a topic suited to that text structure.
