Review your previous work making dark and light tones with crosshatched
pen lines. Also look over your work concerning arranging various sized objects to fill a space
and overlapping and interweaving light and dark shapes.
Go outdoors with your newsprint sketch paper folded into a pad, and do some pencil drawing studies of different kinds of buildings. Sketch one building for each sketch so that you can focus on it's detail and shape.
Look for tall buildings, low buildings, flat-topped buildings, and slope-roofed buildings. Study their shapes and proportions. Try to find building shapes that are not just box-shaped but that have some variations in their contours and levels, such as lean-tos, porches, split levels. Can you find buildings with any rounded shapes—such as curved roof lines, rounded silos, buildings with towers or steeples?
Once you've completed several sketches, scan five of your sketches and submit them to your teacher.
