Nearly 600 years after the invention of the printing press, there are so many variations on the term literature that it would be difficult to have explored them all by grade 8. From novels to nonfiction to plays, poems, and television scripts, the world is filled with words that tell us stories. In this module, you explored excerpts from classic novels like Gulliver’s Travels and Jane Eyre and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The classic novel you’re reading now, though, was written much later than those books, and it describes a world that should be somewhat easier for you to visualize.
