You have likely been taught that the "opposite" of centripetal force is called the centrifugal force. Instead of a "center seeking" force, centrifugal means "center fleeing". The term is used to explain why you feel that you are moving towards the outside of the circle when you drive around a curve.
Your assignment is to answer the question: Is centrifugal force a real force? You will have to do some research on your own to come up with a position. Then, write a one-page essay stating your position, providing evidence to back up your stated position. Make sure your evidence is specific enough to address the question, as well as explained how it shows support for your position.
Your argument essay will be graded using the following rubric.
Position Statement | 5 points | The position statement provides a clear, strong statement of the author's position on the topic. |
Support for Position | 10 points | Includes 3 or more pieces of evidence (facts, statistics, examples, real-life experiences) that support the position statement. The writer anticipates the reader's concerns, biases or arguments and has provided at least 1 counter-argument. |
5 points | All the evidence and examples are specific, relevant and explanations are given that show how each piece of evidence supports the author's position. | |
5 points | All supportive facts are reported accurately. |
