Students will:
- Describe how the rush to find gold and the development of railroads affected the nation.
- Analyze the long drive and interpret the role cattle played in western settlement.
- Determine why farmers faced hard times in the late 1800s and how they tried to overcome these hard times.
- Describe the role of women in the settling of the Great Plains and boom towns.
- Describe why the federal government forced Native Americans to move to reservations.
