Cassie has to grow up a little bit while in Strawberry, and the trip turns out much differently than she imagined it would. She experiences firsthand how unfair and unjust society is and also how willing some of her neighbors are to use that system against her. Meanwhile, Cassie continues to worry about the nightmen and what they might do. She tries to understand why her family is treated differently than white families in the area, but her frustration and anger make all of these things difficult to accept.
In Chapter 6, you’ll learn more about Cassie and how the trip to Strawberry affected her. You’ll also learn that the Logan family has a potentially powerful ally among the white members of their community.
