"It's necessary to relax your muscles when you can. Relaxing your brain is fatal." - Stirling Moss, Auto Racing
Arrows are very sharp, dangerous objects when used incorrectly. Safety is something you and everyone around you should pay close attention to -- and use consistent guidelines to help maintain safety. Below is a list of rules that will help you safely enjoy the sport of archery.
Safety Rules
1. Don’t go to the target while others are shooting. All participants should retrieve arrows at the same time.
2. When finished shooting, step back three paces and wait.
3. Draw an arrow only when directed at the target.
4. Never attempt to demonstrate shooting skill by shooting at an object held by another individual.
5. Shoot at targets only from the shooting line.
6. Obey the starting and stopping signals.
7. Be certain that there is an adequate backstop behind the target or, if there is no backstop, that the area is clear.
8. Never leave bows and arrows unguarded where children or careless persons might use them.
9. Never shoot straight up into the air.
10. Never shoot with a faulty bow or arrow or permit others to do so.
11. Never take chances with your equipment or behavior.
12. Do not pinch the arrow between the thumb and finger to shoot. Always use three fingers for drawing the arrow, so you do not accidentally release the arrow.
13. No fooling around on the shooting line.
14. Never run with arrows in your hand.
15. When you have finished shooting, stand behind the other archers until the last archer has finished.
