I want to be first in line--not second, not third, but first! First, second, and third are ordinal numbers.
Ordinal numbers are used to show the order or position of something. If something is in the number 1 position, it is first. If it is in the number 2 position, it is second. If it is in the number 3 position, it is third--and so on. Here are the ordinal numbers for 1 through 20:
