2 + 2 = 4

4 - 2 = 2

Two whole-part-part charts: The first chart has 2 counters in each part, and 4 counters in the whole section; with the whole section on the bottom, and both parts on top. The second chart has 2 counters in each part, and 4 counters in the whole section, and the order is reversed from the previous chart, which means, the whole section is on top and the parts are on the bottom.

2 + 2 = 4

4 - 2 = 2

When you are subtracting doubles facts, the parts are the same. See how the parts in this subtraction sentence are the same number?

4 - 2 = 2
