To learn how colonial children lived and what they did, watch the video below.
A Day in Our Colonial Life
Meet the History Kids! They love history and teaching history to other kids.
Today they want to teach you what a day in your life would be like if you lived in colonial times.
Meet Abraham and Abigail. They want you to join them in a typical colonial day.
Pretend you are looking out the window and watching them since there were no electronics in colonial times, so you would not be watching a video.
Your day will start very early.
You have chores to do to help your family before you go to school.
School is in a one-room schoolhouse. All of the kids in the area will be in the same classroom. You will use the hornbook to learn how to read.
On your walk home from school, you may play hoops with your friends.
After school, you will have more chores to do at home to help your parents. Abraham will help his dad and brothers, and Abigail will help her mom and sisters.
Your family will enjoy a simple supper together.
Then it will be time to read the Bible by candlelight as a family and say prayers before bed.
How was Abraham’s and Abigail’s day similar or different than your own?
Now you know what your day would be like if you lived in colonial times.
