Goal:
Meet Jag who is a good citizen and wants to teach you all about how to respect the American flag. Schools and government buildings should display the American flag. The U.S. flag should have a light on it, so you can display it outside in the morning after the sun rises, and take it down before the sun sets. If the flag is on display outside at night, it should have a light shining on it. Only an all-weather flag should be on display outside if the weather is bad. The flag should not touch the ground and should be mended or cleaned if needed. The American flag is only flown at half-mast if the president orders it in memory of someone in government who has died. It is also flown at half-mast on Memorial Day from sunrise until noon to remember those who died serving the country. When the flag is lowered, hands should be waiting to receive it. If it is being put away, it should be folded neatly and ceremoniously. Now you know how to treat the American flag with respect. Many people have died protecting this country and everything the flag stands for. You can be a good citizen by following the United States Flag Code. |
