It’s time to learn how to use a Venn diagram to compare stories.
A Venn diagram shows what is the same and different.
Let’s start with an easy one. We are going to ask these children which vegetable they like to eat- corn or carrots.
Touch which vegetable you like to eat, or you can touch both if you like to eat corn AND carrots.
Yummy!
Here is the Venn diagram where we’ll show which vegetables the children like to eat.
The children who like corn are in the circle on the left side.
The children who like carrots are in the circle on the right side.
The children in the middle of the two circles like BOTH corn and carrots.
Touch where you would be on the diagram.
Let’s use a Venn diagram to show what is the same and different in the stories,
“Little Red Riding Hood” and “The Three Little Pigs.”
Let’s put the characters from “Little Red Riding Hood” in the left circle. Touch the characters as I name them. There is Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandma, the wolf, and the hunter.
Now we’ll put the characters from “The Three Little Pigs” in the right circle. Touch the characters as I name them. There is the little pig that built his house with straw, the little pig who built his house with sticks, the little pig who built his house with bricks, and the wolf.
I see one character that is the same in both stories who should go in the middle. Can you put your finger on that character?
Yes! Both stories have a wolf in them, so the wolf goes in the middle to show he is in both stories.
Excellent work! You can use a Venn diagram to show what is the same and different in two stories!
